Detox, or detoxification, is a process through which the toxic substances are removed from the body. There are several different detox and juicing diets that promise to execute a proper detox within a few days. While these cleansing methods are not backed up by scientific evidences, people who have gone through these procedures claim to feel more energetic and focused after and also during the process.
A fruit detox is a wonderful way to fast without necessarily being starved. Health benefits such as increase in energy levels, help with weight management, reduction in strokes, etc. are some obvious outcomes of fruit detoxes. A fruit detox can be orchestrated with either a single fruit, or through a variety of fruits. For the best results, one must opt for a fruit that he/she enjoys eating, so that there is no feeling of suffering. Remember, such fruit detoxes must not go for more than seven consecutive days.
A Liquid Fast
With a liquid fast, one should only consume liquids such as tea, water, fruit juices, protein shakes, vegetable juices, etc. Liquid diets are extremely beneficial with weight loss goals, as there is a tremendous restriction on the total calorie intake. Despite the lack of any solid scientific research backing up the claim, there are several people who feel cleansed and free of toxins post the liquid fast.

Organic foodstuffs are a must during the healthy detox period, especially if one is keen on having some meat. Meat produced through conventional methods is grown with synthetic insecticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic produce, on the other hand, is grown with the help of natural fertilizers. In addition, organic meats consist of far lesser harmful antibiotics, medications, and growth hormones that are generally fed to animals breeding in a conventional farm. In order to determine whether the food is organic or not, one can check the labels. Organic food items usually come with a green organic seal, certified by the USDA.
Drink Adequate Amount of Water
Having enough water within the system is essential for the well-being of any individual. Besides several of its health benefits, the fluid levels of the body can be maintained. This, as a result, helps the kidneys flush out the main toxin of the body – blood urea nitrogen.
To add some flavor, orange or lime juice could be mixed with water. These citrus fruits would help cut down on the body fat. In addition, it would also make it much easier to consume 8-10 cups of water every day.

Say No to Alcohol

Avoid Added Sugars
Consuming too much of sugar regularly would cause a spike in the blood sugar levels, putting one at a greater risk for diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. One must, therefore, read all the nutrition labels and be cautious of additional sugars in salad dressings, bread, and sauces.
Limited Exposure to Air’s Harmful Toxins
The exposure to dangerous toxins, such as asbestos and carbon monoxide, in the air must be checked, both of them could be found in homes. An odorless potentially fatal chemical, carbon monoxide is produced from grills, furnaces, and car engines. Some of the side effects include dizziness, headaches, and lethargy. One can consider buying a carbon dioxide detector for homes, and also ensure a properly ventilated house. To keep asbestos at bay, buildings and homes must be regularly tested.
Several philosophies and religions see fasting as a means to refocus the mind and develop a sense of inner peace. While detoxifying the body, try getting rid of anger, grudges, sadness and any other negative feeling. One must make good use of the time available and think about aspirations and goals, instead of preparing or eating food. If possible, the thoughts can be distilled in a journal.
Do Not Overdo
Most important than all the things mentioned above, one must find an achievable and balanced program that merges healthy diet changes and daily exercise with qualified, regular supervision. One must remember that the detox process is meant for creation of healthy habits, and not to further stress the body with extreme, rapid and unsustainable change. As one comes off the detoxing process, efforts must be made to avoid binging.
If necessary, the detox could be done with a friend. This would help gather support during the rough patches, and also some applause when successful.
Some time must be allotted for light exercises; Pilates, yoga, brisk walking, etc. would be most ideal. On the other hand, strenuous activities such as weight training or running should not be attempted while fasting.
